SIALKOT: The Directorate of Inland Revenue Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala sealed a tea factory at Malikwal on non-payment of sales tax amounting to Rs 500 million during an action.
Reportedly, Additional Director Sajjad Azhar conducted raid along with his team at Qamar Tea Factory, Malikwal and sealed it following the laws.
As per details, owner of the factory was defaulter of Rs 500 million sales tax since long. The FBR sent many notices to him but he not only remained reluctant to pay default amount but also filed a petition in Supreme Court of Pakistan and the cout granted stay order.
However, after completion of court hearing, the learned court rejected writ petition and issued orders that the owner of tea factory should deposit default amount of sales tax. But the defaulter instead of paying taxes started using delaying tactics.
Therefore, Additional Director Sajjad Azhar along with his team raided the factory and sealed it until the payment of outstanding amount. The officials also intimated Mandi Bahauddin District Police Officer so that the owner could not break the seal.
The officials said that raids were being conducted to arrest the owner of the facatory.
It is also learnt that Gujranwala Customs Intelligence and Investigation has already registered many cases against the said owner due to purchasing and selling of smuggled tea.
