KARACHI: The Gwadar Customs Collectorate has exceeded the revenue collection target by 67 percent for the first half (July-December) of the financial year 2016-17. The total revenue collection target for the first six months (July-December) was Rs 7,102 million while collection against this target stood at Rs 11,885.5 million, showing an increase of 67 percent.
Sources told Customs Today that this collection is 87 percent more than the previous year 2015-16 when only Rs 6,324 million were collected. The breakup of the revenue collection shows that against the customs duty target of Rs 1,922 million, at least Rs 2,607 million were collected. Rs 2,785 million were collected as withholding tax against the target of Rs 768 million while Rs 10.46 million were collected under the head of federal excise duty.
A comprehensive strategy, coupled with the strong anti-smuggling measures, has materialized the revenue collection target. Officers of the Gwadar Customs under the guidance of Collector Saeed Akram have made all out efforts to stop revenue leakage and achieve the targets.
During the same period, the anti-smuggling wing of the collectorate seized goods worth Rs 1,687 million, including 437,310 liter high speed diesel, 3779 kg narcotics and miscellaneous items.
