Gwadar Customs recovers smuggled Iranian diesel, narcotics

KARACHI: Customs collectorate Gwadar has recovered 22,000 liters of Iranian diesel and smuggled Indian gutkha and narcotics during different crackdowns and arrested six persons.

Sources of Gwadar customs told Customs Today that Collector Gwadar Saeed Akram received secret information that a huge quantity of smuggled Iranian diesel is being transported outside the area of Suro. He immediately constituted a team to thwart the smuggling attempt.

The customs team formed different check points on different roads and started checking of vehicles. During checking of an oil tanker the team recovered 22,000 liters of smuggled Iranian diesel. Customs team asked the driver of the oil tanker to provide legal documents about possession of smuggled Iranian diesel. But the driver of the oil tanker failed to show any legal documents regarding possession of Iranian diesel. Upon his failure Customs team seized the Iranian diesel and registered a case of smuggling against accused persons. The market value of sezied Iranian diesel is Rs1.4 million.

During another crackdown Gwadar customs authorities recovered huge quantity of narcotics. After receiving tip of customs authorities formed a team who intercepted a bus and recovered 200 kilogams of fine quality hashish from secret parts of the vehicle. Customs team arrested three accused persons and registered a case of smuggling. It is necessary to mention here that this the third biggest crackdown during the month of June. Prior to this customs authorities of Gwadar foiled many bids to smuggle huge quantity of narcotics and seized narcotics consisting market value of Rs20 million.
