Gwadar Customs recovers smuggled portabe air condtioners, Iranian diesel

KARACHI: The Customs collectorate Gwadar, during an operation, seized 1 ton portable air conditioners and arrested two persons, while during another crackdown the customs team recovered a huge quantity of smuggled Iranian diesel.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Gwadar Saeed Akram received information that a huge quantity of air conditioners are being smuggled and some smugglers are going to dump these air conditioners in Gwadar area. After receiving the information, Collector Saeed Akram summoned ASO team comprising Ubaidullah Shah, Junejo Khan and others. The ASO team raided a godown in Kalag area and recovered 200 portable air conditioners and arrested two persons who were present  in the godown at the time of raid. During initial interrogations, both persons revealed that they are only guards and are unaware of the legal custody of these conditioners.

During another crackdown, Customs Gwadar authorities recovered huge quantity of smuggled Iranian diesel. Sources said that after receiving an information customs team raided a vacant polot in Basal area and recovered two tanks full of Iranian diesel. Sources said that these tanks were being loaded on oil tankers for transportion to other areas. Customs team raided the plot and seized both tanks loaded with Iranian diesel. The actual quantity of seized Iranian diesel is Rs50,000. Customs team also arrested four persons and started investigations from them. The market value of seized Iranian diesel is Rs3 million. Customs team also imponded the oil tanker which were being used for transportaion of this diesel.

It is necessary to mention here that customs authorities also speed up their efforts to curb smuggling attempts in the region and successfully thwarted many attempts of smuggling in recent days and recovered huge quantity of smuggled goods and also arrested notorious smugglers.
