Gwadar Customs seizes diesel, electronics and oil tanker worth Rs 15.7m

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate, Gwadar, while taking action against smugglers, confiscated a large quantity of air conditioners, electronics, Iranian diesel and oil tanker worth Rs 15.7 million.

Gwadar Customs Collector Saeed Akram received information regarding an attempt to smuggle air conditioners to other cities of country. The collector formed an anti-smuggling team comprising Shah Zaman, Junejo Khan and others under the supervision of deputy collector to conduct raid.

The team established check post at exit point of the city when it intercepted a container for checking that led to the recovery of more than 100 units of air conditioner. On demand, the driver of the vehicle provided a gate pass of a godown but failed to show documents regarding the legal import of the items.

The official confiscated the air conditioners under the customs laws and started investigation about the said godown. It was revealed that many other non-duty paid items have been stored in the godown.

The anti-smuggling team raided the godown and recovered 50 lED monitors, 100 air coolers and other items, which were also confiscated, besides sealing the godown. In this action, the customs officials arrested six suspects. The value of all seized items has been estimated at Rs 8 million.

During another action, the Gwadar Customs staff seized 36,000 litres of Iranian diesel along with oil tanker being used for transportation of the smuggled diesel.

The officials intercepted the oil tanker near Jiwani and asked the driver to show documents regarding legal import and lawful possession of the diesel but he could not do the same,.

Therefore, the customs impounded the oil tanker along with diesel worth Rs 7.7 million and arrested two accused person during the raid.
