Gwadar Customs seizes steel sheets, jewellery and truck worth Rs 14m

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate, Gwadar, has confiscated smuggled steel sheets and Indian jewellery worth Rs 14 million, besides arresting four suspects during two actions.

The anti-smuggling staff received information through Gwadar Customs Collector Saeed Akram regarding the smuggling of steel sheets, which were brought into the city through sea route. The sheets were being supplied to other cities, causing loss to national exchequer.

Under the supervision of deputy collector, a team comprising Inspectors Mustaq Kamran, Ayub Khaskheli, Rajab Khan and others established checkpoint at exit points of Chati, an area of Gwadar for checking of vehicles.

During checking, the officials signalled a truck to stop for checking that led to the recovery of more than 2000 steel sheets. The recovered items along with truck worth Rs 10 million were confiscated after the accused person failed to show documents regarding legal import of the items and arrested two persons.

During another action, a team of Customs Preventive comprising Inspectors Rajab Ali, Kamran Sadiqqui and others confiscated Indian jewellery comprising rings, necklace, etc which were being supplied to other cities through a passenger bus.

As per details, the team intercepted a bus in its jurisdiction for checking. The officials recovered jewellery from two passengers. The officials confiscated the items worth Rs 4 million and arrested two accused persons during the raid under the customs laws.
