Gwadar infrastructure projects to open new avenues of economical opportunities

ISLAMABAD: Federal government believes that the port city of Gwadar will get new look in near future that would open more eras of economical opportunities for businessmen and workforce soon after completing the announced infrastructure projects.

Documents available with Customs Today reveals that $786 million will be spend on eight Gwadar Port related infrastructure projects during its first phase which are included $140 million Gwadar Eastbay Expressway, $230 million Gwadar International Airport, $130 million Construction of Breakwaters, $27 million Dredging of berthing areas and channels, $35 million Infrastructure for Free Zone and EPZs port related industries, $114 million Necessary Facilities of Fresh Water Treatment and Supply, $100 million Hospital at Gwadar and $10 million Technical and Vocational Institute at Gwadar.

All these projects are planned to complete under the umbrella of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Gwadar East Bay Expressway project will be executed by Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), while the initial formalities including Framework Agreement, (NDRC), MOU and (MOFCOM, EXIM Bank) have been completed. Following its current status, it has learnt that list of contractors received from Chinese side and bidding documents have issued while next steps are Financial Agreement on October 10 and mobilization or commencement of work is expected at the ending month of this year.

The total length of Gwadar East Bay Expressway projected as 19km and project will be completed till end of year 2017, official said.

The execution of another million dollar infrastructure project named New Gwadar International Airport will be started with cooperation of Aviation Division/ CAA and Chinese Engineers, however initial paper work including signing Framework Agreement (NDRC), MOU and (MOFCOM, Exim Bank) has been completed.
