Gwadar to become game changer for region: Minister

QUETTA: Federal Minister for Commerce, Eng Khurram Dastagir has said that Gwadar is going to become game changer for the entire region, adding that the federal government would construct warehouse in Taftan and Expo Center in Quetta, respectively.

He was addressing a launching ceremony of Pak-Iran Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, here on Monday. He said that the nation had pinned hope on mega projects of China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar Deep Sea Port which would boost national economy, adding that Gwadar would be proved a game changer for the entire region.

He said that most of funds were allocated for power production projects to be executed under CPEC. He said that bright future of the region linked with CPEC and Gwadar projects. He said that the federal government has planned to construct a warehouse in border area of Taftan and Expo Center in Quetta to strengthen local and national economy and to support trade activities. If the Balochistan government provides land, the federal government will construct warehouse in Taftan and Expo Center in Gwadar, he said.

He said that Pakistan wanted neighbouring countries of Iran and Afghanistan to extend their fully cooperation for strengthening mutual trade relations. Around US $ 35 billion will be spent on power production projects in the region, he said, adding that several road projects would also be executed under CPEC and other mega projects.

Others who spoke among them were former federal minister Aijaz-ul-Haque, Balochistan Assembly Speaker Raheela Hameed Khan Durrani, Iranian Counsel General based in Quetta Majeed Sadiqui and Provincial Minister Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhel.
