Haroon Akhtar appointed PM’s Special Assistant for Revenue

LAHORE: Haroon Akhtar Khan has been appointed as special assistant to the Prime Minister for Revenue with the status of Minister of State.

A notification has also been issued by the Cabinet Division in this regard. Haroon Akhtar Khan is the director of Board of Institute for Policy Reforms, which has been taking a hard line against the government on economic issues, perturbing the economic managers particularly Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

Finance minister Ishaq Dar has several times clarified government stance after the release of IPR fact sheets. Haroon Akhtar Khan has served as a Senator and a two-time member of the Punjab Assembly. He is also the managing director of Tandlianwala Sugar Mills Ltd and a director of Riaz Bottlers Pvt. Ltd. and Superior Textile Mills.

As a Senator from 2006-2012, Haroon served as a senior member of standing committees on: Finance, Economic Affairs, Revenue, Statistics and Planning & Development, Commerce, Industries and Production, Petroleum, Natural Resources & Minerals and Sports, Culture and Tourism.
