HK Customs seizes 3kg methamphetamine

HONG KONG: Hong Kong Customs seized a total of about 3 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine and 477 grams of suspected ketamine at two land boundary control points and Mong Kok, and arrested a man and two women. The total market value of the drugs was about $1,009,000.

Customs officers intercepted an incoming male passenger at Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point yesterday afternoon and found about 2kg of methamphetamine in the cans he carried. Later, Customs officers intercepted an incoming female passenger at Lo Wu Control Point in the evening and found 477g of suspected ketamine on her.

During an anti-narcotic operation in Mong Kok in the evening, Customs officers intercepted a woman and found about 1kg of suspected methamphetamine inside the handbag she carried.

The arrested man, aged 18, and two women, aged 23 and 41, were charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug. They will appear at the Sha Tin Magistrates’ Courts and Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts on Saturday (January 2).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence.

The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
