HONG KONG: Hong Kong Customs yesterday (December 16) seized a large haul of suspected smuggled products with an estimated market value of about $0.4 million at the seashore of a construction site in Tung Chung.
Customs officers conducted an anti-smuggling operation yesterday night and took enforcement action after spotting some persons moving a large amount of goods from a private car onto a speedboat at the seashore of a construction site in Tung Chung. A total of 36 cartons of cough syrup and 4 cartons of electronic components were seized during the operation. Investigation is on-going and the private car was also detained. Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
Under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance, any person found guilty of possessing the poison included in Part I of the Poisons List without a licence is liable to a maximum fine of $100,000 and imprisonment for two years.
