HONG KONG: Hong Kong and Shanghai stocks opened slightly down on Friday morning, following a weak lead from Wall Street, paring gains made on hopes for economic reforms in China.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index opened down 1.0 per cent, or 231.59 points, to 22,819.45, while the Shanghai Composite Index eased 0.24 per cent, or 8.38 points, to 3,514.44.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, was flat, edging up 0.90 points to 2,094.37.
