HSD oil smuggler sent to jail on judicial remand

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashidi sent an accused named Abdul Jabbar S/o Haji Abdul Rahan to Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand and directed the investigation officer to complete probe and submit the charge-sheet on the next date of hearing. The accused was booked in a case of attempt to smuggle/non-duty paid 25,000 litres HSD oil from Hub Balochistan into interior Sindh.

It needs to be pertained here that on last date of hearing counsel for applicant/accused had filed pre-arrest bail application which was rejected by the court and officials of the customs department had arrested him outside the court room.

The court had observed in its order that “record shows that applicant/accused was shown as absconder in charge sheet. Accused is absconder since long and non-bailable warrant was already issued against him. The applicant/accused is deeply involved in transportation of smuggled HSD which was seized. The accused is the owner of the vehicle in which alleged smuggled HSD was transported. The offence committed by the accused is punishable with 14 years’ imprisonment and as such falls within the clauses of Section 497 cr.pc. The specific role had been attributed to the applicant/accused person. The charge-sheet shows that accused is fully involved in smuggling therefore the bail before arrest application is hereby rejected”.
