Hyderabad ASO confiscates smuggled items worth Rs 1.5m

HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) confiscated 5,000 liters of smuggled Iranian diesel and a Bedford truck worth Rs 600,000 involving duty/tax  Rs 187,000 during the last week of February 2016.

Sources told Customs Today that an ASO team following a tip-off, which was received  thorough  Customs Collectorate  Agha Shahid Majeed Khan, conducted a raid to  foil a smuggling  bid.

After receiving information, Additional Collector Hyderabad Omar Shafique  formed an ASO team which raided a godown near Hyderabad market police station and recovered a huge quantity of smuggled gutka, foreign origin cigarettes, shisha amounting to Rs 1.5 million. The ASO team also arrested suspects identified as Haji  Ayub and Shah Muhammad.

Addressing a press conference, Collector Agha Shahid Majeed Khan said that the Customs and ASO authorities were taking all possible measures to curb smuggling in the region. Additional Collector Omar Shafiq and Deputy Collector Nafees Ahmed were also present on the occasion.
