Hyderabad ASO seizes 60 cartons of cigarettes, 30 statues

KARACHI: The Hyderabad Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has destroyed eight petrol pumps during the first 16 days of August while 250,000 litres Iranian oil seized during several raids.

Customs Collectorate of Hyderabad has foiled the smuggling of statues and non-duty paid cigarettes during two successful raids while five men were arrested. Collector Agha Shahid Majeed received information that smuggler were planning to supplied statues in a truck.

Consequently he informed the Additional Deputy Collector Umar Shafiq and instructed him to curb the smuggling. Additional collector formed a team including Inspector Salman Mujahid, Agha Shahid Khan, Noman Ali and others. The ASO team established check-post at Thandi Road and started the checking of vehicles. During the checking of vehicles the team intercepted a suspicious truck. During the searching of the truck the team recovered 30 precious statues. The customs officials confiscated statues and arrested three persons included driver. The ASO officials said that the value of seized statues is more than Rs7 million. These statues were 120 years old.

In another action, The Anti- Smuggling Organization has seized huge quantity of non-duty paid cigarettes. Customs officials told Customs Today that Collector received information a huge quantity of smuggled cigarette through a passenger bus. He informed the ASO team and directed them to curb the smuggling. ASO team started checking of vehicles and intercepted a bus which was coming from Meerpur Khas. During the searching of the bus the team found 60 cartons of non-duty paid cigarettes. The customs officials seized cigarettes and arrested two persons who were involved in smuggling.
