Hyderabad ASO seizes huge quantity of smuggled electronic goods, tea

KARACHI: Customs  collectorate Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized a huge quantity of non-duty paid electronic goods which were being transported to Karachi and Mirpur Khas, while during another operation the ASO team recovered smuggled tea.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Agha Shahid Majeed received secret information that some smugglers are going to smuggle non-duty paid LEDs, TV monitors, bedroom size refrigerators and other goods outside Hyderabad city. He immediately summoned Additional Collector Umer Shafiq and directed him to use all available resources to thwart these attempts. The ASO team established many check points at various entry and exit points of the city and started checking of vehicles.

The ASO team intercepted a truck and recovered 100 LEDs, 100 TV monitors, 200 dish antenna receiver, 20 bedroom size refrigerators, and other electronics goods. ASO team asked for legal documents for possession and transportation of these electronics goods, but all the six persons who were board on truck failed to show any relevant documents. Upon their failure ASO team seized the goods and arrested all the six persons besides registering a case of smuggling. The market value of seized electronics good is Rs 1 million.

Sources said that during another crackdown ASO team recovered 20 sacks of smuggled tea from a Suzuki van. The owner of Suzuki van failed to show any relevant documents regarding possession of  tea. ASO team arrested the accused and registered a case of smuggling.
