Hyderabad customs earns Rs 5,950.708m, seizes goods worth Rs 165m in IH FY 2016-17

HYDERABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) has collected Rs 5,950.708 million under the heads of customs duties and taxes during the first half of Financial Year 2016-17.

According to details, the department generated Rs 1,493.264 million as customs duty, Rs 4,249.103 million in the wake of sales taxes, Rs 7.021 million under the head of Federal Excise Duty (Special FED) and Rs 201.32 million as Withholding Tax (WHT) during the abovementioned period.

The major sources of tax revenue remained Hyderabad Dry Port state warehouse, Sukkur Division, Huffaz Seamless Pipe Industries, Crescent Steel, Omni Polymer Industries, Rema Cooking Oil and the Pakistan State Oil. The Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) also seized non-duty paid goods worth million of rupees.

Under the supervision of Hyderabad Customs Collector Agha Shahid Majeed Khan, Additional Collector (HQ) Rehmatulah Vistro, Additional Collector Omar Shafique, Deputy Collector Shahid Ali Abbasi, Superintendent Statistical Rrevenue Mohammad Yaqoob Pasha played important role in revenue collection, officials said.

They added that the anti-smuggling campaign is in full swing in the region following the direction of Federal Board of Revenue and Collector Agha Shahid Majeed Khan in order to save the national economy.

The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Hyderabad, Anti-Smuggling Organizations (ASO) Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana Divisions foiled various smuggling attempts and made big seizures of non-duty paid items including vehicles, high speed diesel, fabric, narcotics, auto parts, medicines, cigarettes, gutka, blankets, watches, tyres and tubes, toys, crockery, toiletries and electronic items in different operations worth Rs 165 million during the first half of Financial Year (FY) 2016-17.

The two impounded vehicles along with an oil tanker through auction collected Rs 14.64.99 million revenue including duty and taxes during December 2016-17.
