Hyderabad Customs Intelligence impounds vehicles & goods valued Rs26m during June

HYDERABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Field Investigation Unit (FIU) Hyderabad, has impounded vehicles and goods including Toyota Hiace van and Toyota Premo, ladies and other cloths, black tea, dry milk, and other items worth Rs26million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs06.3million during the month of June 2017.

Sources told Customs Today that on the strict instructions of Directorate General of Customs Investigation and Intelligence Director Shukat Ali, Director Intelligence and Investigation Karachi Tahir Qureshi took effective measures to check the smuggling in the region.

The intelligence teams conducted various raids on the region and seized smuggled goods and vehicles during the period. A number of raids were conducted on tip-offs received through Deputy Director Waqar Haroon Malik.

The team, comprising Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi, Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, Inspector Muhammad Shah, Sepoys Noshad Khan, Ghiyas Ahmed Shah, Momin Khan, Nusrat Shah, Azam Ali Chandio, Muhammad Imran, Aslam Chohan, Driver Hanif Soomro and Rao Abdul Sattar and Janib Azam, participated in the operations.

The team impounded two non-duty-paid vehicles including Toyota Premo car modelled 2003 with registration No: AHZ-124 worth Rs2.5million and a Toyota Hiace van modelled 1994 with registration No: JF-6599 worth 1.5million in two different raids.

In another raid, the intelligence staff intercepted the vehicles near Hyderabad Highway Bypass Hatri for checking that led to the recovery of 630 bags of detergent powder, 116 bundles of ladies cloths and 280 sacks of black tea. It also confiscated 399 cartons of Rani juice and 64 cartons of chocolate, 100 bags of dry milk powder made of USA, 70 pieces of LED TVs and 28 bundles of ladies cloths.

The department seized various items and vehicles in different raids after the owners could not produce the legal documents of import or lawful possession of the items. The cases have been sent to the Customs Adjudication after making the seizure reports.
