Hyderabad Customs Intelligence seizes goods, vehicles worth Rs 8.5m

HYDERABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation’s field investigation unit (FIU) has seized smuggled perfumes, school begs, vehicles, and other goods items worth Rs 8.594 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 3.838 million during first four months (July-October) of the current fiscal year.

The intelligence teams conducted various raids in the region and seized smuggled goods and vehicles during the period. A number of raids were conducted on information received through Deputy Superintendent Sikanadar Hayat Khanzada.

The officials impounded two non-duty paid vehicles, including Toyota Crown Salon bearing Registration No AC-2885 worth Rs 1.6 million and a Toyota Starlet Salon worth Rs 500,000 during two different raids.

In another raid, the intelligence staff intercepted a vehicle near Hyderabad Highway for checking that led to the recovery of said 400 bags of polyethylene. It also seized 27 cartons of gents wallet, 25 cartons of trolley school bags, ladies purse, 980 kilogramme of cloth, 655 kg parachute school bags and other items made in UAE. The items were being transported to Karachi from Rawalpindi.

The department confiscated various items and vehicles in different raids after the owners could not produce documents showing legal import or lawful possession of the items. The cases have been sent to the Customs Adjudication after making seizures report for further legal action.
