Hyderabad Customs seizes 120 non-duty paid National iron

HYDERABAD: Customs Intelligence and Investigations Field Information Unit (FIU) seized 120 pieces of non-duty paid National iron (Japan origin) during an operation. The market value of the seized items is Rs240.000 involving duty and taxes Rs79.665.

According to details, Deputy Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi received a tip-off regarding transportation of smuggled items through National Highway. Qasim Ali immediately constituted a team comprising Irfan Ghani, Ahmed Hussain Junejo, Sepoys Moin Ahmed Khan, Ghayas Ahmed Shah, Aslam Chohan, Musarat Shah, Muhammad Imran, Noshad Khan, Azam Ali Chandio and Driver Janib Kurb.

The FIU team established a checkpoint at Halanaka bypass and started searching vehicles. While searching, the FIU team intercepted a public transport vehicle and recovered 120 pieces of foreign origin National brand iron. The items were being transported from Lahore to Karachi.

The FIU team asked the driver of the offending vehicle to provide legal documents regarding possession and transportation of the items but he remained failed to provide any required document.

After his failure, the FIU team seized the non-duty paid items and registered a case of smuggling against the accused.

The FIU team deposited the seized items to the customs warehouse and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for further proceeding.
