Hyderabad Customs seizes black pepper, schoolbags worth Rs 5.2m

HYDERABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Hyderabad FIU unit has seized 50 bundles of smuggled black pepper valued Rs 3025,000 involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 877,796 on bypass road Hyderabad during a raid. Meanwhile, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized 50 bundles of schoolbags worth Rs 2.2 million involving duty /taxes amounting to Rs.1.5 million during a action on Hyderabad National High way.

Reportedly Customs Intelligence & Investigation FIU Unit Hyderabad In-charge Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi along with Customs Intelligence Officers Irfan Ghani and other customs staff was checking vehicles on Hyderabad near bypass road.

Meanwhile, Customs Intelligence team intercepted a vehicle and started searching it, which led to the recovery of 50 bundles of black pepper. The vehicle was going to Karachi from Lahore. The driver was asked to show documents, but he failed to prove the genuineness, so the customs officials confiscated the said item under the customs bylaws.

It may be mentioned here that following the instructions of director Karachi Customs Intelligence, the field investigation unit is taking stern action against smugglers in the region. Keeping the instructions in view, all measures are being taken to save the national economy from illegal trade.

The intelligence team, comprising I&I FIU Unit Hyderabad In-charge Qasim Ali Alvi, Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, Sepoys Noshad Ali, Azam Ali Chandio and Driver Haneef Soomro and other staff, set up a check-post at the exit point of the city.

As per details, Deputy Superintendent QasimAli Alvi, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid on the vehicle carrying Non-Duty Paid schoolbags from Karachi to Lahore.

Officials said that a case will be sent to the Customs Adjudication after making a seizure report for further legal action.
