Hyderabad customs seizes handbags, tyres, shoes worth Rs 2.9m

HYDERABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Hyderabad seized non-duty paid 41 sacks of ladies’ handbags worth Rs 2.9m during a raid in Hyderabad region.

Sources told Customs Today that the FIU Unit Hyderabad received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of imported ladies’ handbags. So the unit formed a raiding party to foil smuggling bid. The team intercepted a vehicle near Hatri Police Station bypass Hyderabad.

The customs officials asked driver to produce legal documents of the imported goods, but he failed to produce the same. So the customs officials impounded the vehicle and recovered the said goods.

The customs intelligence officials deposited the confiscated sacks of handbags into the state warehouse in Hyderabad.

The Hyderabad FIU unit, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi comprising Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, Sepoys Noshad, Azam Ali Chandio, Rao Abdul Sattar, Imran Ali and Driver Haneef Somroo and others, took part in the operation.

Meanwhile, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Hyderabad’s Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) has confiscated 14 smuggled tyres and 17 bundles of shoes worth Rs 682,400 involving duty taxes amounting to Rs 223,171 during an operation in Hyderabad region.

Sources told Customs Today that the FIU unit Hyderabad team, acting upon a tip-off received through Director Karachi Customs Intelligence and Investigation Feroz Alam Junejo, conducted a raid to foil a smuggling attempt in the region.

Deputy Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi, Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, Sepoys Noshad Khan, Azam Ali, Imran Ali and other staff concerned, executed a raid near highway bypass in Hyderabad and intercepted a vehicle. The officials asked the driver to produce documents regarding the legal possession of the goods, but he failed to prove the genuineness. Then the customs seized the goods following the customs bylaws.
