HYDERABAD: In a major crackdown against illicit trade, Pakistan Customs, in collaboration with Sindh Police and Sindh Rangers, dismantled a smuggling network operating in Hyderabad.
Acting on intelligence inputs, law enforcement agencies launched a meticulously planned raid on Panhwar Goth, targeting illegal factories concealed within residential areas.
The operation, spanning three hours, led to the recovery of a significant cache of contraband, including 259 bags (2,590 kg) and 221 bags (3,315 kg) of betel nuts (choora), along with 90 bags (4,050 kg) of gutka.
Additionally, authorities seized two industrial mixture machines, five units of “Chani,” and a shifting trolley. The total value of the confiscated goods is estimated at Rs5.5 million.
Hyderabad Customs Additional Collector Shah Faisal stated that the illegal processing units were engaged in the retail packaging and distribution of these hazardous substances to multiple cities. The operation was executed without incident, ensuring compliance with legal protocols.
He further informed that six individuals were arrested and FIR has been lodged, with further investigations underway to dismantle the broader network behind this illicit trade.
Hyderabad Customs authorities reaffirmed their commitment to curbing smuggling, which not only endangers public health but also inflicts substantial economic losses on the national exchequer.
This decisive action signals an intensified crackdown on organized smuggling operations, with more enforcement measures expected in the coming weeks.
