Hyderabad FIU confiscates art-silk, white-oil worth Rs 2.2m

HYDERABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, FIU Unit Hyderabad, has seized 19 sacks of non-duty paid art-silk weighed 2,250 kilogram worth Rs 1596,000 involving duty and taxes amounting to Rs129,662 during a raid in the last week of December 2016.

Sources told Customs Today that on the special instructions of Director General Shaukat Ali, a crackdown was launched in the region to curb the smuggling.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Director Karachi Feroz Alam Junejo received a tip-off regarding the smuggling attempts. He formed an ASO team comprising Deputy Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi, Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, Sepoys Noshad, Azam Ali Chandio, Imran Ali Rao, Abdul Sattar and Driver Janib Crob and others.

The team intercepted a vehicle near Hatri Police Station Hyderabad. The Customs FIU team recovered the said number of sacks of art-silk weighed 2,255 kilogram worth Rs 1.5 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 129,662.

The customs intelligence officials asked the driver to produce documents of the imported goods, but he failed to do so.

The customs FIU team seized the goods and forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.

Customs Intelligence Director Karachi Feroz Alam Junejo appreciated the performance of Customs Intelligence FIU team, which foiled various smuggling bids in the region.

Meanwhile, the staff of Field Investigation Unit of Hyderabad Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized 24 drums of smuggled white oil worth Rs 650,000 involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 230,547 during a raid in Hyderabad.

According to details, The Field Customs Intelligence and Investigation FIU Unit Hyderabad got a tip-off that a truck was coming from Sindh with smuggled white oil. The truck was stopped by the authorities concerned. The team asked the driver to produce the relevant documents, but he failed to do so. The team confiscated 24 drums of non-duty paid white oil worth Rs 650,000.

The I&I FIU Hyderabad team, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent Qaism Ali Alvi, Customs Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, Sepoys Imran Ali, Noshad, Azam Ali Chandio, Drivers Haneef Somroo, Janib Crob and others, took part in the operation.
