HYDERABAD: The Customs Intelligence Unit (FIU) Hyderabad has confiscated 29,000 liter of foreign origin smuggled Hydrocarbon oil along with a tanker worth Rs03.6million during a crackdown last week of April 2017 in Hala Naka Hyderabad.
Sources told Customs Today that I&I Hyderabad, on the strict instructions of Directorate General Customs Intelligence & Investigation Director Shuakat Ali and I&I Karachi Region Director Tahir Qureshi, took effective measures to curb the smuggling in the region.
The Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Field Investigation Unit (FIU) confiscated the said oil with an offending Bedford oil tanker worth above said amount involving duty and taxes of Rs583906 in an operation during the last week of April 2017.
Director Karachi Tahir Qureshi received a tip-off about the smuggled Hydrocarbon oil. He called Deputy Director Haroon Waqar Malik to use all available resources to foil the attempt. Deputy Director formed a team comprising Superintendent Qasim Ali alvi, Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, Sepoys Muhammad Imran, Noshad Khan, Moin Khan, Aslam Chohan, Ghayas Ahmed and Drivers Rao Abdul Sattar, Janib Crob and Haneef Somroo.
The FIU team started checking the vehicles near Hala Naka Hyderabad. During the checking, the FIU team intercepted an oil tanker with registration N0: TUB-730 and recovered the said oil.
The oil tanker was coming from Karachi to Mirwah (Sindh). The Customs FIU team asked driver of the vehicle to show legal documents regarding the possession and transportation of Hydrocarbon oil but he failed to provide the required documents. The FIU team confiscated oil and impounded the tanker.
The FIU team registered a case of smuggling against the accused and forwarded the case to Customs I&I for further proceeding.
