HYDERABAD: The customs intelligence & investigation’s field investigation unit (FIU) Hyderabad confiscated foreign origin 37 cartons of batteries of mobile phones, foreign origin 400 crates of Irani juice and 100 PP bags of 2,500 kg of nylon zipper worth Rs07.1million involving duty taxes of Rs975421 during a raid on Asif Pindi-Karachi Goods Transport Company Hala Naka Hyderabad.
Sources told Customs Today that these items were being brought from Karachi to Rawalpindi.
Deputy Director Intelligence and Investigation Customs Hyderabad Haroon Waqar Malik received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of above said goods. He constituted a raiding team under the supervision of superintendent of FIU Hyderabad Qasim Ali Alvi. The FIU team raided the premises of above said goods company and intercepted a vehicle and recovered the said goods.
The team asked the driver of the vehicle to produce the legal documents regarding the import and possession of goods but he failed to do so. Consequently the customs seized the items under the customs bylaws.
After making a seizure report, the FIU deposited the seized goods into Hyderabad State Warehouse.
The FIU team comprised Irfhan Ghani, Inspector Ahmed Hussain Junejo, Inspector Noor Shah, Inspector Anis Ahmed Khan, Sepoys Noshad Khan, Moin Khan, Azam Ali Chandio, Ghayas Shah, Imran Ali, Driver Hanif Somroo, Rao Abdul Sattar and janib Curb.
