HYDERABAD: The Directorate Customs Intelligence & Investigation impounded smuggled items including vehicles, diesel (HSD), contraband items, gutka, betel nuts, two consignments of foreign origin tiles, foreign origin 10 truck tyers, medicine, other goods worth Rs34,450,483 including duty and taxes during different operations in second week of May 2019.
The I&I team, following instructions of Hyderabad Customs Director Sadiqullah Khan, conducted various raids in Hyderabad, Sukkur Range office areas to confiscate smuggled items under the supervision of headquarters Additional Director Syed Naeem Akhter.
The directorate customs I&I confiscated smuggled goods including non-duty paid 45000 liters of High Speed Diesel (HSD) worth Rs 4.1 million, 1125 kgs betel nuts worth Rs529077, contraband goods, 10 smuggled truck tyers worth Rs 346,223. Hyderabad customs team intercepted a vehicle Toyota Hi-Ace van bearing registration NO-JF 6838 and recovered foreign origin 40 sacks smuggled Indian gutka worth million of rupees.
The Hyderabad Directorate customs I&I officials also confiscated smuggled items including two consignments of Iranian origin tiles loaded on two Hino trucks bearing registration No TKW-162 and TAL -570 and recovered huge quantity of Iranian tiles worth million of rupees. The smuggled goods were being transported at Hino trucks from Quetta to Karachi during the said period.
The driver of the vehicle was asked to show the legal documents of the goods but he failed to do so. The officials confiscated the items considering them smuggled under the customs bylaws. All the goods have been shifted to state warehouse Hyderabad and Sukkur after making a seizure report.
The Hyderabad Directorate customs I&I team, comprising deputy director Shah Faisal Sahu, deputy director Mukhtar Ali Sheikh from Sukkur, Superintendent Tariq Rafique, Superintendent Fariduddin Masood, intelligence officer Syed Shafique Ali, Inspectors Muneer Bhambro, Muhammad Anees, sepoyes, drivers and other staff took part in the operations.
Talking to Customs Today, director customs intelligence and investigation Sadiqullah Khan said the performance of range office Sukkur has recorded upward trend by considerable margin over the corresponding period of previous years. Range office has targeted POL and other contraband goods.
Hyderabad Customs showed excellent performance regarding the anti-smuggling operations during the said period. All possible measures will be taken to curb smuggling in the region as vigilance has also been enhanced, he added.
