ISLAMABAD: The Officers of Federal Board of Revenue have been under immense stress over recent shift of promotion policy of the government to verify their names with Intelligence agencies (I-Checks).

The new policy created frustration among FBR officials as many customs officers have been denied promotion to upper grades on suggestions of Intelligence agencies. Those suggestions were based on the information given by rivals of these officers over enmity.

FBR officials told Customs Today that many officers deserve promotion as they have been serving long period in the department with rich experience besides contributed towards growth of revenue from clearance of trade.

The Central Selection Board (CSB) and departmental promotion committee of FBR on verbal recommendations of Intelligence agencies made decisions about the approval of promotions, giving no written argument for their decision. However, Customs officers seemed it a dramatic change in the government policy resulted in frustration as no documented proves were given by intelligence agencies when they rejected for promotion.

The FBR officers said that the shift in policy of the government would hamper the revenue collection activities as it will discourage them instead of motivating them. They said that they have no objection over intelligence checks and verification but deemed it against law if any officer was denied of promotion without any documented prove but just on verbal opinion of Intelligence officers.
