ICCI calls for new rent control law for traders in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of Traders Welfare Association, F-6 Super Market, Islamabad led by its President Shehzad Shabbir Abbasi visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest. Muhammad Hussain, General Secretary and others were also in the delegation.

Addressing the delegation, Ahmed Hassan Moughal, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the Finance Minister Asad Umar during his election campaign had assured the traders of Islamabad that if PTI won the elections, he would try for promulgation of a new rent control act in Islamabad during the first 100 days of his government. He urged that the Finance Minister should honor his assurance as due to lack of rent law, rent disputes and forced evictions of traders from shops were on the rise.

He said that Super Market was the face of Islamabad and needed urgent attention of CDA for its better development. He said that due to key location, foreign diplomats, foreign visitors and other dignitaries frequently visited this market for shopping. He stressed upon the CDA to focus on resolving the key issues of Super Market including provision of filtration plant, restoration of all street lights and redesigning of car parking for expansion to facilitate the business activities. He assured that ICCI would fully cooperate with TWA Super Market in its endeavors aimed at resolving the major issues of traders of the area.

Rafat Farid Senior Vice President and Iftikhar Anwar Sethi Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry said that most of the issues of traders were related to CDA and ICCI was making efforts to arrange a meeting with Chairman in near future to discuss the issues of business community for finding out their optimum solutions.

Speaking at the occasion, Shehzad Shabbir Abbasi President and Muhammad Hussain, General Secretary, Traders Welfare Association, Super Market, Islamabad highlighted various issues of their Market. They said that due to the absence of rent control act, traders were feeling insecure and ICCI should cooperate in urgent resolution of this issue. They said that there was no filtration plant in the market due to which the traders and residents of the area were deprived of clean drinking water. They said the current car parking was insufficient and urged that CDA should redesign the parking to expand it and arrange its re-carpeting. They said CDA should restore all street lights in Super Market to curb the incidents of thefts and other problems. They assured that TWA Super Market would fully support ICCI in its efforts for resolving the key issues of the local business community.

Zubair Ahmed Malik Chairman Founder Group, Khalid Javed, Muhammad Ejaz Abbasi, Zafar Bakhtawari, Khalid Chaudhry, Sheikh Abdul Waheed, Nisar Mirza and others were also present at the occasion.
