CANBERRA: I.G. International Private Limited (IGIPL), one of the leading names in fresh fruit imports and exports in the country is now eyeing up a bigger share in grape exports from India. It had clocked up grape exports worth Rs 14 crore in the last financial year and aims at doubling revenue from grape exports to Rs 30 crore in the current financial year.
Headquartered in Mumbai, the fresh fruit import and export entity has already initiated grape exports to various European countries including Germany and France. Grown with much care and packed in zero degree centigrade temperature, grapes are also being exported by I.G. International to various locations in Russia and the Middle-East.
During 2013-14, India exported around 52,000 MT of grapes, 50% of which was sent to European countries while around 20% was imported by the United Kingdom. Russia in the previous year had imported around 5200 MT of grapes from India.
Industry experts believe, grape exports to Russia this year will witness a steep rise. Russia put a blockade on grapes from the United States, the EU and also Australia last winter which has brought much cheer among Indian fruit exporters like I.G. International.
