ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved the decision in an application against customs moved by two persons who were highlighted by model Ayyan Ali as purchasers of her property during interrogation.
The two persons, including Awais and Mumtaz, were included in the case following the revelations made by Ayyan that she had received $500,000 which were seized by customs at Islamabad airport, by selling her property to them and others.
Therefore, customs had summoned both persons to record their statements but they avoided to appear before the authority on which Customs Investigation and Prosecution obtained arrest warrants against them which were sent to them on their Pakistan and UAE residence addresses.
Later, both accused moved the IHC through their counsel against the issuance of arrest warrants by taking stance that customs officials were wanted to harass them through investigations.
On the other hand, customs argued that main suspect in currency smuggling case had revealed their names so they have to record their statements before the authority as it is necessary for customs to verify the Ayyan’s statement.
However, Inland Revenue Intelligence is also waiting for the arrival of nominated persons in Pakistan to know the source of income in case they have paid amount against purchasing the plots.
