Import goods theft at Ports becoming severe: Muffasar Malik

KARACHI: Acting President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Muffasar Atta Malik has expressed deep concern over rising incidents pertaining to theft of imported goods during examination and clearance from all ports of Karachi city, which causes severe losses to importers.

In a statement issued, acting president urged Ports and Shipping Ministry and Chairmen of all ports of the city to take notice of the peculiar rise in theft of imported goods and order Port Security Force to take stringent steps to secure imported consignments in order to save the business community from suffering severe losses.

Muffasar Malik pointed out that Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry has received numerous complaints from importers who, while seeking KCCI’s assistance in bringing this pressing issue to the notice of concerned authorities, however, imported goods were constantly being stolen.

To resolve this issue, Muffasar Malik further suggested that besides intensifying security arrangements of imported consignments, the concerned authority must also allow a representative of business community into the port premises during clearance and examination.
