TAMIL NADU: The Forest wing sleuths of the CID on Sunday arrested one person on charges of possessing and selling tusks and seized two tusks at Karahalli village in Bangarpet taluk of the district on Sunday. The police gave the name of the accused as Samapthkumar, a resident of Karahalli.
Based on a tip-off, the sleuths him on the pretext of buying the ivory. The seized tusks, about 3.5 feet each in length, were said to be of a 50-year-old elephant and were smuggled from Tamil Nadu. Sampathkumar had kept the tusks at his home for about three weeks, police said.
The CID (Forest wing) Inspector H.N. Honnappa, sub-inspector Rajendra and other staff participated in the operation. They filed a complaint with the Bangarpet town police and handed over the accused to the police, Circle Inspector of Police G.N.
