Inflation increased 0.2% in Nov

ISLAMABAD: Consumer Price Index (CPI), during the last month (November), witnessed an increase of 0.2 percent as compared to the previous month.

The CPI inflation general increased by 3.8 percent on year-on-year basis during the month of November, 2016 as compared to corresponding month of last year.

According to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, average CPI inflation during the period from July-November was recorded at 3.92 percent as compared to the corresponding period of last year. The core inflation measured by non-food non-energy CPI increased by 5.3 percent on year on year basis in November 2016 as compared to increase of 5.2 percent in the previous month and 4.0 percent in November 2015.

On month on month basis, it increased by 0.2 percent in November 2016 as compared to increase of 0.9 percent in previous month and an increase of 0.1 percent in corresponding month of last year.

The core inflation, measured by 20 percent weighted trimmed mean CPI (Core Trimmed) increased by 3.8 percent on year on year basis in November as compared to 3.8 percent in the October and by 2.9 percent in November 2015.

The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) inflation on year on year basis increased by 0.6 percent in November 2016 as compared corresponding month of last year.

The Whole Sales Price Index inflation on year on year basis increased by 2.6 percent in last month as compared same month of last financial year.

Top few commodities which had recorded increase in their average prices during last month included eggs, potatoes, pulse gram, besan, sugar, gram whole, mustard oil and dried fruit. The items which registered decreased in their average prices included tomatoes, fresh fruits, onion, pulse mash, chicken, gur and pulse moong.

Non-food items with increasing trend included woolen readymade garments and woolen cloth, whereas household equipment prices decreased during the period under review.
