Internal Audit directs Customs Intelligence to submit auction report within month

KARACHI: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has been instructed to expedite the process of auction to recover Rs 236.899 million and lot-wise report should be furnished to the Internal Audit within one month.

These directions came in the light of the audit report in respect of the Karachi Customs Intelligence for the year 2014-15.

The team of the officers who conducted the audit comprising Deputy Director Ghulam Haider Mahesar, Superintendent S A Jafri, Deputy Superintendent Shaikh Mansur, Deputy Director Muhammad Tayyab, Deputy Director Amjad Ali Rajper, Superintendent Abdul Razak Samejo, Superintendent Zafar Iqbal, Superintendent Muhammad Ilyas and Superintendent Mehmood Abbas.

Sources said that the scrutiny of the record pertaining to the year 2014-15 revealed that the Customs Intelligence had seized dozens of vehicles and smuggled goods; however, the authorities failed to ensure auction of the confiscated goods/vehicles. In this regard, the authorities have been asked to furnish a report to the Internal Audit within a month time.
