LAHORE: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived on a two-day official visit to Pakistan on Saturday.
According to Iranian media, he is leading a high-level delegation. The trip focuses on strengthening trade, economic ties, and regional cooperation. Before leaving, President Pezeshkian spoke to reporters about his goals for the visit.
He said boosting the volume of bilateral trade to $10 billion is a key objective. The Iranian president also highlighted the importance of enhancing border security and promoting peace in the region. He noted that expanding border markets and transport links could open new avenues for cooperation between the two countries.
President Pezeshkian expressed Iran’s interest in joining the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He said participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) could help connect Iran with European markets. He emphasized that Iran sees the project as a valuable opportunity for regional integration.
He also reaffirmed support for Islamic unity and regional solidarity. “Attempts to damage the Iran-Pakistan Islamic alliance will fail,” he stated. Pezeshkian added that both countries must work closely to defend shared values and interests. He expressed hope that the visit would bring meaningful progress on all fronts.
The visit comes amid growing efforts by both nations to improve economic and security ties. Iran and Pakistan have been looking to resolve border tensions and expand cross-border trade. Talks during the visit are expected to cover security cooperation, energy trade, and infrastructure development.
