Iranian customs announces 55% reduction in car imports

TEHRAN: Iran’s Customs Administration has announced a 55-percent reduction in car imports during the first 4 months of the current Persian calendar year.

According to the latest statistics of Iran’s Customs Administration, 14186 passenger vehicles worth over 337974 million dollars (304456 million euros) entered the country during the first quarter of the current Iranian year, showing a dramatic drop compared to the same period last year which accounts for the import of 31471 cars worth up to 642817 million dollars.

Accordingly, during 4 first months of current year, the number and value of cars imported to the country has decreased by 55 percent and 47 percent, respectively compared to the same period last year.

Production Statistics by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) indicated Iran’s auto production increase by 46.7 percent in the 12-month period in 2014.
