DUBLIN: Trinity College and University College Dublin Student Unions have joined forces with Daft.ie in a campaign to raise awareness for the tax incentives available to those who rent their spare room to students. This is in response to a shortage of affordable rental accommodation in the capital.

They are highlighting Irish law which states that you don’t have to pay tax on rental income from digs unless you pass the cap of €12,000 in any tax year. UCD Student Union president, Conor Viscardi, told Independent.ie that those considering renting out their spare room should be encouraged by the profile of those who enter this type of accomodation.
