ISLAMABAD: Special car cell, directorate general customs intelligence and investigation, the Federal Board of Revenue Islamabad, has impounded a non-duty-paid smuggled BMW car worth Rs5.5million.
On a tip-off, staff of the special car cell intercepted the non-duty-paid car with a fake registration No. IDD-9076 Islamabad Modelled 2004 near F-8 Markaz Islamabad. The car was possessed by a Chinese national named Zhou.
On demand, Zhou failed to produce any legal proof or lawful possession regarding the registration, import or payment of leviable customs duty and taxes. Staff of the special car cell physically examined the chassis of the vehicle and tallied the record of import with the Amnesty Scheme 2013 and auctioned vehicles available with the directorate general customs intelligence and investigation, but no record of the same chassis No was found.
As per record of excise and taxation office and motor registration authority Islamabad, Registration No: IDD-9076 Islamabad was allotted to another vehicle Suzuki Alto car modelled 2000 so the car cell impounded the BMW car under Section 17 of the Customs Act-1969 for verification of its import status, payment of duty and taxes leviable thereon and lab test.
