Islamabad Customs arrests seven smuggling of foreign currencies and gold valued at Rs31.33m

ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) has confiscated foreign currencies and gold worth Rs31.33million during the 1st of July 2016 to 31st of August 2017 in seven seizures.

According to details given by sources of the MCC Islamabad that the collectorate has arrested the smuggling of six foreign currencies and two bids of gold during above said period. All the smuggling attempts were frustrated at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad.
The sources told CT that the first seizure of currency was of Rs400000 Saudi Riyals with Rs11.18million’s value of Pakistani currency while the second seizure of currency was of UAE 49,500, 85800 Saudi Riyals and 500 Qatari Riyals with the value of Rs3.89million whereas the third confiscation of currency was of 60.000 Euros with value of Rs7.02million. The Sources told CT that the fourth seizure of currency was of $20.000, PKR 28,050 and Chinese Yuan 6,700 with the total value of Rs2.24million and the customs staff of the MCC Islamabad took into possession $20.000 and PKR 28,050 with value of Rs2.14million during the fifth confiscation of foreign currencies.
Regarding the confiscation of smuggling gold impounded during 1st of July 2016 to 31st of August 2017, the sources told CT that, during the first seizure of gold, the customs staff seized 736.410 grams of smuggling gold priced at Rs3.10million whereas, during 2nd seizure of gold, the customs staff impounded 425 grams of smuggling gold valued at Rs1.76million.
The Collector and Directors of Customs Department will present the details of the confiscations during their presentation today (13th of September 2017) at the FBR House meeting to develop a strategy to arrest the currency and gold smugglings under the chairmanship of Member Customs Zahid Khokhar.
