Islamabad Customs Intelligence impounds NDP smuggled electronic items

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General, Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Federal Board of Revenue Rawalpindi, has confiscated the Non-Duty-Paid foreign origin miscellaneous electronic goods including blender, sandwich maker, food processer, wall mount brackets, sub-woofers, stereo power amplifier, dual speakers, heavy duty irons and speakers valued at Rs1.35million.

The goods were owned by M/s Allied Electronics, Shadman Mall, M/s Ashraf Riaz Private Limited and SVA-RUBA Electronics Lahore.

According to details, Anti-Smuggling Organization of Rawalpindi Directorate Customs I&I received a tip-off that non-duty-paid foreign origin miscellaneous goods will be smuggled from Lahore into Rawalpindi. Acting on the information, anti-smuggling staff intercepted a loaded mini truck with registration No: LEE-14 5596 on Rawalpindi Highway. The goods were owned by Al-Mehboob Goods Transport Company (Registered) Rawalpindi.

By a thorough search, anti-smuggling staff recovered the foreign origin non-duty-paid smuggled goods in the presence of the driver. On demand driver Muhammad Zahid S/o Muhammad Ishaq, a resident of Lahore, failed to produce any evidence and legal or lawful import of the foreign origin goods.

One representative of Al-Mahboob Transport Company, one Imran Ali son of Shamshair Ali, a resident of Mardan, appeared before the Rawalpindi Directorate and submitted GDs No.LTNB-HC-2037, dated 8 March 2017, LAPR-HC- 20198, dt, 22 June 2017, KAPW- HC-207132 dt, 22 April 2017, KAPW-HC-2016406 dt, 6 May 2017,and KAPE-HC-126867 dt, 4 March 2017.

The produced documents were examined and found irrelevant therefore said goods were impounded under Section 168 of the Customs Act-1969.
