LONDON: Jeep Cherokee refreshed model is expected to arrive by mid-2016 but Jeep Chief Mike Manley promises any aesthetic tweaks will be kept to a minimum.

“I think the overall styling, the overall shape, the overall accommodation of that vehicle is spot on,” he said, according to Automotive News. “I don’t think that there’s anything that dramatically needs to change with that vehicle going forward.”

Introduced for the 2014 model year, the Cherokee has quickly become one of Jeep’s best-selling nameplates. The company sold nearly 18,500 units in June, up 39 percent from the same period last year. It was the top seller for the first six months of the year, accounting for more than a quarter of the brand’s overall sales.

The crossover has been beset with transmission issues, leading to several software updates for its new nine-speed automatic gearbox. The model is also the subject of several recalls related to electrical fires and accidental airbag deployment.

Manley suggests the company is still attempting to make quality improvements for the Cherokee, and “significant progress” has been made to resolve the transmission glitches.

The refreshed model is expected to arrive by mid-2016.
