Jhang ASO confiscates smuggled items worth Rs 1.7m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Jhang city, has confiscated foreign origin cloth, shoes, cosmetics and other items worth Rs 1.763 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 631,357.

The ASO team comprising Superintendent Muhammad Javed Mehmood, Deputy Superintendent Sardar Muhammad, Inspector Munir Ahmad, Shaukat Khan and sepoys namely as Ghulam Sarwar, Muhammad Ajmal and Ahmad Bux conducted a raid to seize the smuggled items.

The team intercepted a truck bearing Registration No. TKA-914 near Muzzafargarh Road, Ahmadpur Sial and recovered 96 pairs of shoes, 260 kilogram of cloth, 625 kilogram of dried pomegranate seeds, 3,025kg tamarind, 87kg currant and 296kg cosmetics, which were smuggled from Quetta to Lahore.

The team asked the driver named Faiz Muhammad to produce documents regarding the legal import of the items but he failed to do the same; therefore, the officials seized items under Section 3 (1) 3 of Import and Export Control Act, 1950 punishable under Section 156 (I) 89 (i) 90 of the Customs Act, 1969 read with SRO 499(I)/2009.
