Jhang ASO seizes contraband items worth Rs1m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Jhang, has confiscated non-duty paid miscellaneous items during road checking.

Sources told to Customs Today that the Collector Zulifqar Ali Chaudhary received information that some elements were planning to smuggle contraband items. Consequently, he information Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan Khan about the information and directed him to curb smuggling.  The deputy director along with his team intercepted a trailer bearing Registration No, LR-1239 near Tehsil chowk Shorkot district Jhang.

During the searching of the vehicles the ASO team recovered foreign origin powder brand Pretty Cow (100 bags), manganese sulphate monohydrate mnso4-h20 (50 bags), made in China, viscose bright polyester 2830kgs, and yarn 150D/48SDTX/F yarn (95-carton), made in Indonesia. The team asked the driver namely Kamran Aziz son of Abdul Aziz residential of Chak No, 165 TDA T/D Layyah to produce any legal documentary proof regarding lawful possession of the items but he remained failed to produce the same.

Therefore, the ASO team seizes the smuggled items under Section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act 1969.

The ASO team comprising Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspectors Shaukat Khan, Munir Ahmad, Khalid Ashraf Noor and sepoys including Ghulam Abbas, Ghulam Sarwar, Muhammad Ajmal and Ahmad Baksh seized the above mentioned items and forward the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. Customs officials said that the worth of the seized items is more than Rs 1 million.
