KARACHI: It appears that the Regional Tax Office (RTO-II) has decided to negate the government’s policy of access to information and the staff of RTO-II Karachi is not even allowing journalists to get any information.

Over half a dozen of times this scribe tried to meet the Chief Commissioner but the office boy sitting right outside her door, instead of giving reporter’s visiting card to the boss of RTO-II, started asking questions. After replies to all of his queries he moved this scribe to the PA of the Chief Commissioner instead of giving his visiting card to his boss.

Later, the PA sent this scribe to one of the staff officer, who said that he is honest with his department and will not provide any details to this scribe.

Finally this scribe had to leave the office of RTO-II Karachi empty handed in an era which is being associated to media boom.

The RTO-II officials deliberately imbibed the right of a journalist which is ‘access to information.’

The concerned authorities of Pakistan including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar and FBR Chairman Tariq Bajwa have been requested to take notice of the situation and ensure access to information to journalist in all government departments.
