Judge Faiz Rasool approves bail of accused against surety bonds of Rs 2m

KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Faiz Rasool Rashdi has granted a suspect, Ali Qureshi, bail against the surety bonds of Rs 2 million. Qureshi is facing drug smuggling charges.

Earlier, the Sindh High Court ( SHC ) had directed Customs Court to decide the bail application of the accused. The counsel for the applicant had submitted before the SHC that the accused had confidence and faith in the court.  Neither the accused nor the counsel or anyone on their behalf had ever attempted to influence the judge of the Custom Court.

Earlier, the counsel for the applicant stated before the SHC that FIR No 3/2016 R&D (East ) on 11th January 2016 under customs and CNS acts was lodged by the customs authority against his client. The applicant filed bail application before Customs Court but according to the judge, some persons tried to influence him for granting the remand of to the accused. Therefore, the judge wrote a letter to secretary  law and justice division which replied that the matter would be referred to the SHC for transfer of case to another court.
