Judge Faiz Rasool grants remand of accused tax-evader

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi sent one accused named Muhammad Fahad S/o Muhammad Hanif, a representative of M/s AAA Package, to Customs Department’s lockup on physical remand till January 27, 2016 who was allegedly involved in a case of duty and taxes’ evasion of Rs2.7 million.

During the hearing, Inspector Ijaz Khan appeared before the court and produced accused Muhammad Fahad and requested the court for a 14-day physical remand of the said accused. The court granted his requested. The court also directed investigation officer to produce the above accused on next date of hearing along with a progress report.

According to the prosecution, a case was registered against Muhammad Fahad S/o Muhammad Hanif, M/s AAA Package, Burhan Uddin Azeem, S/o Badruddin Azeem, M/s Azeem Tax, Muhammad Aziz Qadir and representatives of Al-Noor Shippers in violation of Section 32, 32A, 16 & 197 of the Customs Act, Section 219 of Customs Act-1969 read with/chapter 3 of chapter XII of Customs Rules-2001 notified vide SRO 450 (1) 2001 dated 18/06/2010 punishable under clauses (1) (43) and (86) of Section (1) of the Customs Act-1969.

Some other accused, excluding Muhammad Fahad, are still absconding.
