FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO), Mianwali, has seized smuggled items worth Rs378000 involving customs duty and taxes amounting to Rs71769 under of the Customs Act-1969.
According to Customs Today, Additional Collector (ADC) Muhammad Saeed Asad received a tip-off regarding the smuggling attempt on which he formed a team, comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Muhammad Umar Bhatti, Azhar Hussain Jafari, Driver Riasat Hussain, Sepoys Muhammad Ashraf, Faiz Ahmad, Riaz Ahmad and Muhammad Yousaf.
The team intercepted a trailer with registration No: TLE-765 near Wan Buchran, district Mianwali, which was driven by Malik Dad son of Sher Muhammad, a resident of tehsil and district Khushab. The customs officials recovered imported Tamil’s tamarind seeds Khush Alocha ( 150 cartos) made in Iran.
The ASO team asked the accused to produce documents regarding the legal status of the goods. He produced Bilty No: 6357 dated 3-09-2016 issued by the Geo Punjab Karachi Hazara Goods Transport Co, Quaid-E-Azam Truck Stand, Karachi, in the name of Consigner Nisar Ahmed son of Abdul Samed and the name of consignee was not mentioned. The loaded goods were found not tallied with the provided Bilty.
The ASO team, under Section 171 of the Customs Act-1969, issued a notice to the driver of the vehicle. Recovery memo was prepared in the presence of the driver and two witnesses. The seizure report along with its enclosure has been forwarded to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
