BENGALURU: To reduce the growing traffic congestion and pollution in the city, the Karnataka government is toying with the idea of hiking the vehicle registration fee and other charges for those who want to own more than one four-wheeler.
“We’re working on this plan… Higher tax on the second vehicle would discourage citizens from owning too many vehicles, and also raise additional revenue for the government. Before we take it forward, we have sought opinion from the experts on how to go about it,” said a senior official of the urban development department. He also said the additional tax may also be applicable to companies which buy vehicles for their employees.
