SEOUL: The South Korean based automaker Kia is on a wave currently, along with its partner, Hyundai, and it seems that development of completely new models is still being planned. According to a recent report, the newest model to receive a production version will by the GT Concept. This has been confirmed by the Kia America’s head of product planning, Orth Hedrick, who stated that the official announcement for such a vehicle will be made “soon”.
The production version of the Kia GT Concept will be most likely toned down compared to the one-off vehicle and expect some different front and rear fascias along with the removal of the rear suicide doors and smaller wheels. Also expect a more practical interior design. As you probably already know by now, the Kia GT Concept has been officially presented to the public during the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and the possibility of it catching the production line is not new at all. The rear-wheel drive concept has a 3.3 liter V6 turbocharged engine under its hood, rated at 395 HP (290 kW) and 545 Nm (394 lb-ft) of torque, mated to the 8-speed automatic transmission. The production variant will probably get a petrol and diesel engine lineup, along with a hybrid variant too.
